“To empower women, especially women of color, by providing compassionate, accessible, and culturally responsive mental health support. Our mission is to break barriers, nurture resilience, and promote healing, enabling every woman to thrive mentally, emotionally, and holistically.”
Hattie’s Brown Girls is inspired by my mother, Hattie Williams, a trailblazer for young girls and women in the Baltimore City community. She was a beacon of light and hope, leaving a lasting impact on everyone she encountered.
I became a teenage mother at 15, but with the unwavering support of my family, I was able to finish school and even take some college courses. However, as a teenager, I endured significant trauma, which I carried well into adulthood. That trauma contributed to serious mental health challenges, including severe depression, and I vividly remember walking to a facility seeking help during one of my darkest moments. I know firsthand what it feels like to experience a mental breakdown and how it can affect not only yourself but also your family and children.
Before her passing, my mother ran a nonprofit that helped countless women rebuild their lives after facing hardship and mental health challenges. Inspired by her work, I founded my own nonprofit shortly after her passing to continue her legacy. My mission is to ensure that every woman has access to the care and resources they need to recover and thrive, regardless of their circumstances.
Through my nonprofit, Hattie’s Brown Girls, I have partnered with several organizations to provide women with support during their mental health journeys. This includes access to food, shelter, opioid drug treatment, financial literacy programs, and holistic care. To date, we have made a difference in the lives of over 100 women, and we are committed to continuing this vital work, helping women overcome mental health challenges and build brighter, more abundant futures.
